Private operator sought for Port of Cape Town ship-repair floating dry dock
A request for proposals (RFP) has been issued by Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) for a private facility operator to design, finance, construct, operate, maintain and decommission a floating dry dock at the Port of Cape Town under a 25-year concession.
The RFP has been issued in response to what TNPA describes as growing demand for ship-repair services, driven by increasing vessel traffic along the Cape Sea route.
Once operational, the floating dry dock will support a range of ship-repair activities, including hull maintenance, machinery and equipment overhauls, steelwork inspection as well as repair and specialised maintenance services.
“This concession project presents an opportunity to not only increase capacity but to also enhance our service offering to customers and reinforce Cape Town's position as a competitive maritime repair hub,” acting Port of Cape Town port manager Ophelia Shabane said in a statement.
A non-compulsory briefing session for prospective bidders will be held on September 3, with the bid submission date set for December 14.
